The Pillbug Project: A Guide to Investigation
Published in Paperback by National Science Teachers Association (24 February, 1992)
Authors: Robin Burnett and Sergey Ivanov
Average review score:

Super science book!
This is a great book to get children involved in hands on science. The book takes you through a 10 day investigation with pillbugs. I have found that many of my students get over their fear of bugs after doing this project.

The Poems of A. E. Housman (Oxford English Texts)
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (January, 1998)
Authors: A. E. Housman and Archie Burnett
Average review score:

Wonderful but Overpriced
This is a marvelous book. It has all the poems plus some new ones (new to me, and I thought I knew the work); the clear textual apparatus would have pleased the great textual scholar-poet himself. Moreover, the notes are truly helpful, adding information about botany, the classics, astrology, and other references that give the poetry additional depth and make these seemingly simple verses richer.

...Housman, Graves's biography tells us, wanted his books inexpensive so as to be widely available. Surely plasticated paper over boards in a perfect binding, no matter what the costs of storage and overhead may be, can't justify this steep a sum.

The Positive Corporate Manager: Lessons from Coaching Kids (How to Build Employee Self Esteem in the Workplace)
Published in Pamphlet by Funagain Press (December, 1996)
Author: Darrell J. Burnett
Average review score:

A practical application - sports and business
Dr. Burnett has outdone himself again! His short sports quips and comparison to the everyday work place is a terrific way to present his concepts on self esteem and motivation.

Queens of Comedy: Lucille Ball, Phyllis Diller, Carol Burnett, Joan Rivers, and the New Generation of Funny Women (Studies in Humor and Gender)
Published in Hardcover by Routledge (April, 1997)
Author: Susan Horowitz
Average review score:

Great intro to comediennes
I used this as a textbook for a film class I taught last year and the class loved it. The book contains solid biographical information and it's really fun to read. Plus, author Horowitz offers some very perceptive insights into women's comedy. My only criticism is that footnotes would have been really helpful because the students wanted to follow up on some of the sources -- but overall I highly recommend it.

Queens Walk in the Dusk
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (June, 1977)
Author: Thomas Burnett Swann
Average review score:

Queens Walk in the Dusk, a Prequel of the Mellonia Series
This was Swann's last published novel, and the only one to ever be released in hardcover. It is the story of Aeneas, wandering hero of Troy, and Queen Dido of Carthage. It features folk from the prehuman era: dwarves, nerieds, and demigods. This novel, by far, was Swann's very best.

Race Without End: The Grind Behind the Glamor of the Sasol Jordan Grand Prix Team
Published in Hardcover by Haynes Publishing (November, 1994)
Authors: Maurice Hamilton, Diana Burnett, and Nigel Snowdon
Average review score:

An absolute great book
This book takes you through the ups and downs of Jordan Grand Prix's 1993 season. From the launch of the car to the last race of the season. And about the struggle to survive against the major, big budget teams of Formula 1. A great inside view of how a (small budget) racing team operates and deals with the pressure of the high tech world of Formula 1.

Racketty-Packetty House: As Told by Queen Crosspatch
Published in Hardcover by Derrydale (May, 1992)
Authors: Frances Hodgson Burnett and Harrison Cady
Average review score:

The dolls are at play while you sleep
How many of us have awakened to find that our dolls were NOT where we left them the night before? A wonderful read aloud that piques the imagination and prompts great kid discussions of what exactly they DO all night(you are playing with them in the daytime!) Timeless.

Sara Crew: Or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group Juv (September, 1981)
Author: Frances Hodgson Burnett
Average review score:

Sara Crewe: or what happened to Miss Minchin
Excellent reading for children Story helps to build personal morals and shows life in early England. Will appeal to little girls who of course always daydream to be "little princesses",as the reworking of this book in later years is by that title. Another great work by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

The Secret Garden

Average review score:

One of the best books ever written.
I first read The Secret Garden many years ago. I loved it then and I still love it now. I believe it is one of the best children's books ever written. It combines fantasy, mystery, and history with a wonderfull plot. No matter how old I am when I read it, or how long it has been since I last read it, I enjoy it imensely. I strongly recomend buying it or borrowing it from your library. The Secret Garden certainly is a true classic.

The Secret Garden
Published in Audio Cassette by Listening Library (June, 1900)
Author: Frances Hodgson Burnett
Average review score:

The magic of a fairy tale, yet real enough to believe
To be ten or twelve and reading this is heaven. To have your ten or twelve year old read it, is also heavenly. Read it in winter, and spring will be in your heart before it is through!

The tale of a stubborn child who changes with the help of some unlikely friends to work miracles in a secluded garden: it is a story of healing and adventure, without coming off sappy or silly. Remarkable in its telling, it is timeless in its appeal. For those who might not have read it, The Secret Garden has a "Harry Potter" sort of flavor, with characters that are so well written you might feel you know them. I read it more than once as a child, and as an adult I re-read it every few years.
